Description | Invoking the words "trust" and "real Democrat" multiple times, Richard Raymond formally
kicked off his campaign Wednesday to unseat Henry Cuellar and become Laredo's next
member of Congress.
Cuellar is a freshman Democrat from Laredo who previously served 14 years as a state
representative, a post Raymond now holds.
Standing in the lobby of the Webb County Courthouse next to his wife Michelle, their three
children, his mother, and other friends and relatives, Raymond said it was time for a change
in Washington.
He told the crowd of well-wishers that he would work "tirelessly" to protect public
education from having millions of dollars diverted into private vouchers, and was quick to
point out his opponent's voting record on the matter.
