Description | HUNTINGTON - A Raleigh County businessman and Methodist minister who unsuccessfully ran against U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall in the fall announced he will vie for the Republican nomination to challenge Sen. Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., in 2006.
Rick Snuffer joined Hiram Lewis IV and Princeton optometrist Zane Lawhorn as people ostensibly seeking the Republican nomination to challenge Byrd in 2006 for his Senate seat he has held since 1958.
Beating the nation’s most senior senator can be done, Snuffer said. Snuffer said he doesn’t have to raise Byrd dollar for dollar on the campaign trail. Rather, Snuffer said he hopes to challenge the senator to four or five debates on the campaign trail should he get the Republican nod. |
