Clark Stirs Interest From Sidelines

WASHINGTON — Rep. Marion Berry, D-Gillett, is fascinated by him. Sen. Mark Pryor, D-Ark., calls him a fresh face and an independent thinker.
While they are not ready to endorse him and he has not even decided whether to run, Arkansas members of Congress generally speak approvingly of retired Gen. Wesley Clark, a fellow Arkansan contemplating a campaign for president.
“General Clark is a very bright man,” said Sen. Blanche Lincoln, D-Ark. “He’s got a lot of credibility and a lot of experience. He certainly has every bit the potential as any other candidate.”
The former NATO Supreme Allied Commander turned businessman, public speaker and CNN commentator has said he continues to think about making a run.
“I haven’t made any decisions,” Clark said Friday.
Rep. Vic Snyder, D-Little Rock, said if Clark chooses to run, “I’m sure that Democrats will consider him like they consider all the others.”
He said Clark was part of a large group he considered presidential timber.
“I would love to see him do it,” Berry said. “I haven’t talked to anyone who’s not fascinated by General Clark, including me.” |
