Description | With every passing week, the idea of a Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., candidacy becomes more real. This week's reality check on "Hillary for President" came in the form of her Senate Federal Election Commission report.
The financial numbers Clinton is posting should erase whatever doubt remains with some (mostly on the Democratic side of the aisle, believe it or not) that she'll run in 2008. Clinton's not just "being prepared" with her fund-raising, she's sending a message.
The former first lady posted the highest off-year Senate fund-raising total we've ever seen, raising nearly $6 million in the second quarter of 2005. With no major opposition for re-election, the idea of Clinton having somewhere between $30 million and $50 million to transfer to her presidential campaign account in January 2007 (the month she'd likely announce something more formal) is very real.
