Description | Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker gave away more than $19,000 worth of free tickets to various Milwaukee-area attractions - mostly to media organizations - during a statewide tour that helped raise his visibility in his bid for governor, records show.
Walker says his second annual taxpayer-financed motorcycle tour was designed to promote tourism to Milwaukee County. But he concedes it also helped boost his name recognition in key media markets as he campaigns for the 2006 Republican gubernatorial nomination.
Now two county supervisors have demanded more details about the ride, while independent observers say the episode raises ethical questions for both Walker and the media organizations that accepted the tickets.
As a result, Walker says, he probably won't give away tickets on future rides. |
