Description | There's an itchy frustration bubbling up among the current crop of under-40 Democrats. It's palpably different from the misery that followed the 2004 election disaster. Then the talk was largely about the Republicans. They almost admired the way Republicans hit the right hot-button issues, how they ripened and then harvested an evangelical base that tipped the polls in their favor.
Now the mood is more like tormented teenage angst during the awkward acne years. They feel uncomfortable and it's mostly inward directed. Though they see Blunt down in the polls, they won't let themselves be hopeful. Instead, there's grumbling and grousing -- at their own party. Not with the ideas or platform, but the apparatus, the leadership, the candidates, the game plan. |
