Description | New Mexico's lead-footed governor has promised to put on the brakes most of the time, anyway.
Democratic Gov. Bill Richardson, whose penchant for exceeding the speed limit has made headlines and drawn criticism from Republicans, said Thursday he would slow down.
The first-term governor's sport utility vehicle recently attracted the attention of Albuquerque police who chased it briefly before realizing who it was.
"Disregard. Looks like the guv," the officer concluded.
An Albuquerque television station two years ago reported clocking him at more than 100 mph on a trip between Santa Fe and Albuquerque. And a Washington Post reporter who spent time with Richardson the night of a Democratic presidential debate in Albuquerque in 2003 wrote that the governor's two-vehicle caravan hit a speed of 110 mph on the way to a social event. |
