Description | Tampa Tribune article.
An excerpt...
"On the eve of yet another election year in which Florida Democrats find themselves trying to climb out of a pit of electoral losses, more than 1,100 party faithful gathered this weekend in a resort hotel to hear their candidates for governor and rouse their spirits.
The air was filled with expressions of hope, an achievement for a party that has won only one statewide election since 2000, when Bill Nelson won a U.S. Senate seat."
"The party's top goals in the 2006 election, political analysts said, will be to re-elect Nelson, pull an upset in the governor race by pushing one of the party's candidates past GOP hopefuls Attorney General Charlie Crist and Chief Financial Officer Tom Gallagher, and increase the Democrats' seats in the Legislature.
Because of Republican advantages in fundraising and legislative districts carved to benefit Republicans, the Democrats have no chance of gaining anywhere near a majority in either chamber of the Legislature." |
