Description | Republican Rob Simmons scored perhaps the biggest House upset of 2000, when he defeated 10-term Democratic Rep. Sam Gejdenson in Connecticut's Democratic- leaning 2nd District by 51 percent to 49 percent.
But he faced one of two unattractive prospects for the 2002 campaign: Either his House district would be dismembered – Connecticut lost one of its six seats in reapportionment – or he would be targeted for defeat by Democratic strategists. |
