Description | WASHINGTON — If Arkansan and retired Gen. Wesley Clark really wants to run for president, he still has time to mount a 2004 campaign. But the window is closing fast, and he would have to gamble that he could capture voters’ imagination with an unconventional and likely underfunded campaign.
That’s the assessment of a number of political consultants and analysts as Clark, 58, the former Supreme Allied Commander of NATO, continues to act like a candidate in many ways while refusing to make an official declaration.
If Clark runs, he might well look at the past week as one that made up his mind for him.
Beginning with a June 15 appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press, Clark has spent the week on one nationally televised interview program after another — CNBC’s Capital Report, CNN’s NewsNight with Aaron Brown and Buchanan and Press.
