Description | Gwendolyn Faison won re-election to a second full term as mayor, beating out a determined challenge by Assemblywoman Nilsa Cruz-Perez, D-Camden, according to unofficial results.
Two of Cruz-Perez's council slate, Curtis Jenkins and Councilwoman Dana Redd, also won, along with maverick Gilbert "Whip" Wilson.
Faison, 80, first was appointed to the mayor's post in 2000, when she took over after Milton Milan was jailed on corruption charges. She won a full term on her own in 2001.
About 8,830 residents cast ballots for mayor, about 24 percent of the city's 36,373 registered voters |
