DescriptionBelleville News-Democrat article.

An excerpt...
"The biggest metro-east corruption trial in years began Tuesday with a prosecutor telling jurors that undercover FBI audio and videotapes will prove vote buying and defense lawyers countering that's not what they show at all.

Five defendants including ex-City Councilman Charlie Powell, chairman of the East St. Louis Democratic Committee, went on trial in federal court in East St. Louis before U.S. District Court Judge G. Patrick Murphy.

Powell and Kelvin Ellis, the city's former director of regulatory affairs, as well as Democratic precinct committeemen Sheila Thomas, Jesse Lewis and city hall worker Yvette Johnson are charged with conspiracy to commit vote fraud.

Ellis, Thomas, Lewis and Johnson are additionally charged with vote fraud."
