Description | German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder’s Social Democrats on Sunday announced they would seek an early national election this autumn after suffering a major defeat in a regional poll.
“We want a decision - it’s time that circumstances are cleared up in Germany,” said SPD chairman Franz Muentefering, adding: “The people should say how they wanted to be governed.”
The Bundestag, Germany’s federal parliament, will have the final decision on moving forward general elections which had been planned for late 2006. |
