Gov. Jim Doyle's overall job approval rating among his constituents has fallen during the last two years, according to a newly released survey by Wisconsin Public Radio and St. Norbert's College.

A telephone poll of 400 Wisconsin residents shows that 10% of the respondents are very satisfied with the job Doyle is doing as governor, compared with 12% in the fall of 2003 and 15% in the spring of that year.

Fifty-two percent are somewhat satisfied with his performance, compared with 53% in the spring and fall of 2003, giving Doyle an overall approval rating of 62%, compared with 68% two years ago.

The survey, conducted between April 25 and May 4, showed 24% of respondents were somewhat dissatisfied with Doyle. That's up from 19% in the fall of 2003 and 15% in the spring of that year.

But the survey also found that 10% of respondents were very dissatisfied with Doyle, compared with 14% in the fall of 2003, but 9% in the spring of that year.

The survey shows the governor still maintains a relatively high approval rating that has changed little during his tenure. The differences in the percentages are within the error margins for the survey, which are plus or minus 5 percentage points.

The most dramatic drop in the survey is in the percentage of people who think they will be better off financially the following year.
