SANTA FE (AP) - Gov. Bill Richardson has raised $2.9 million for his re-election during the past year, including almost a half million dollars from another political committee affiliated with the governor.
"My campaign for re-election is off to a strong start," Richardson said in a statement.
At the start of this month, Richardson's re-election account had a cash balance of almost $3.1 million, according to a campaign finance report filed Monday with the secretary of state's office.
When he ran for governor in 2002, Richardson spent slightly more than $7 million on his winning primary and general election campaign and raised more than $8 million in monetary and in-kind contributions.
So far, Richardson hasn't formally drawn a GOP challenger for the 2006 election. The official filing deadline for candidates for governor isn't until early next year. However, individuals are considered candidates for a statewide office if they raise or spend $2,500 or more either seeking the office or exploring a possible candidacy.
In preparing for his re-election, Richardson has dissolved a political committee that was active during the presidential campaign season raising money, registering new voters and making contributions to legislative and other candidates. |
