Description | Maricopa County has passed the 3.5 million population mark, adding more people in 2003-04 than any other county in the nation, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates posted Thursday.
As of July 1 last year, an estimated 3,501,001 residents called the county home, representing growth of more than 112,000 people in the previous 12 months.
It's yesteryear's news, however. If the 2003-04 growth rate of 3.3 percent continued in the 10 1/2 months since July 1, Maricopa County today would be just a hair under 3.6 million. That's about half a million more than were counted in the 2000 census. |
