President's cuts cause concern in Nebraska

| Description | WASHINGTON - Nebraska votes solidly Republican, but as Congress looks to implement President Bush's plan to cut federal programs, some in the red state are seeing red.
Farmers, social service providers and crime victim advocates are among those asking lawmakers to temper Bush's proposal as they write the next federal budget.
Republican politicians are among them.
Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman has called on Washington to spare the Community Development Block Grant program, which many Nebraska cities use to fund projects.
Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning is asking Congress to preserve financial assistance for victims of crimes.
State Sen. Jim Jensen of Omaha, chairman of the Legislature's Health and Human Services Committee, says proposed cuts to Medicaid, the health care program for low-income residents, "would be very injurious to the state."
