Description | (Angus Reid Global Scan) – The governing Labour party seems ready to secure a new term in Britain, according to a poll by ICM Research published in the Daily Telegraph. 40 per cent of respondents would vote for Labour in next month’s general election.
The Conservatives are in second place with 30 per cent, followed by the Liberal Democrats with 22 per cent. Eight per cent of respondents would vote for other parties. The election is scheduled for May 5.
Last week, Conservative leader Michael Howard said the recent arrest of alleged al-Qaeda operative Kamel Bourgass "underlines the chaos in our asylum system." Yesterday, health secretary John Reid said the Tories were "not serious about fighting terrorism," adding, "We will bring in ID cards if there is a Labour government re-elected as a matter of priority."
Support for Labour increased by one per cent, while backing for the Tories dropped by three per cent. |
