PAWTUCKET -- Two Democrats who considered and rejected the idea of challenging Republican Sen. Lincoln Chafee, Reps. Patrick Kennedy and Jim Langevin, came before an audience of senior citizens in the heavily-Democratic Blackstone Valley Monday to endorse Sheldon Whitehouse for the job.

Reps. Kennedy and Langevin announced they will be the national co-chairs for Whitehouse, who still faces a Democratic primary against Secretary of State Matt Brown.

Whitehouse took an early swipe at his Republican opponent before the partisan crowd at the Leon Mathieu Center, saying, "the people of Rhode Island need a steady, reliable voice in the United States Senate, not someone who votes in the interests of Rhode Island part-time and in the interests of George Bush and Tom DeLay part-time. They need someone who votes the interests of Rhode Island every time.
