DescriptionOLYMPIA… Former Washington Secretary of State Ralph Munro has been selected to serve on a new commission on federal election reform co-chaired by former President Jimmy Carter and former Secretary of State James A. Baker, III.

The private bipartisan Commission will assess the adequacy of the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) of 2002 in addressing election-related challenges, review compliance with HAVA, gauge how it worked in the 2004 election, and determine the prospects for full implementation in two years. The commission will also consider recommendations on ways to restore or build full confidence of the American people in the U.S. electoral system.

Other notable members of the Commission include:

Honorable Tom Daschle, Former U.S. Senator, South Dakota and Senate Minority Leader; Public Policy Advisor, Alston & Bird, LLP
Honorable Lee Hamilton, Former U.S. Congressman (D-Ind), Director, Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars
Robert Mosbacher, former Secretary of Commerce
Ms. Sharon Priest, Former Secretary of State of Arkansas; Executive Director, The Downtown Partnership
Honorable J.C. Watts, Former U.S. Congressman, Oklahoma; Chairman, J.C. Watts Companies

“The State of Washington has a long history of progressive election reforms,” said Munro. “I am proud and honored to be a part of this Commission.”
