Description | An ad hoc search committee for the Democratic Governors Association (DGA) began quietly interviewing candidates last night to replace longtime executive director B.J. Thornberry, who resigned last month after clashing with the current chairman, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson.
Party strategists and some governors suspect Richardson is plotting to parlay his chairmanship of the association, a committee that can raise soft money, into hard support for a possible presidential bid in 2008, presuming that he wins reelection in 2006, said several Democratic strategists who are in contact with the DGA. |
