Description | State Sen. Nancy Thompson of La Vista will become executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands on July 5, the organization said Thursday.
Thompson, 57, announced last week, without revealing her new employer, that she would resign from the Legislature at the end of the 2005 session to take a post in the private sector.
Thompson is one of 20 senators who will be term-limited out of office in January 2007. She is leaving office a year early to take the new job, which opened after the previous executive director resigned.
"The wait and the importance of what they do versus staying another year here (in the Legislature) tipped the balance," Thompson said.
