| Description | During the 2004 elections, the Democratic National Committee raised more than $400 million. The amount allotted to help elect Democrats in Nebraska: $12,000.
The vast majority of DNC dollars were concentrated in fewer than two dozen presidential battleground states. But those days are over, local Democrats said Monday, one result of the election of Howard Dean as the party's new national chairman.
Dean, the former Vermont governor, was elected to the top party post espousing a 50-state strategy. He said the party can't get back on its feet nationally unless it competes in all states and supports and elects candidates at all levels of government.
For Nebraska Democrats, it means a minimum commitment of $250,000 in annual support from the national party, a prospect that leaves party leaders giddy.
"Howard Dean is going to transform the Democratic Party into an organizational and fund-raising machine that will rebuild our party in every state, every county and every precinct," said Barry Rubin, executive director of the Nebraska Democratic Party.
"His election can mean nothing but good for us here in Nebraska."
