DescriptionI'd like to take just a moment to congratulate Governor Hoawrd Dean on his selection as chairman of the Democratic National Committee. His rise to this position, I will note, has been met with both jubilation from his supporters and deep concern from some other Democrats. I hope and believe that the latter is unfounded. It is no secret that I did not support Governor Dean's bid for the presidency. I have my differences with him on political and ideological grounds. However, I cannot deny that Governor Dean brought a great amount of energy, spirit, and imaginative creativity to his campaign, as he has to his work for the Democratic Party since then. These are qualities that have been woefully lacking from the DNC's leadership in the past 2 cycles, and I think Dean will be able to translate these skills and others into the makings of a very effective and capable chairmanship. While I and others may not see eye to eye with Dean on every issue, his promise and drive to make the Democratic Party more competetive state by state and build the party from the grassroots up is the kind of vision the party sorely needs. So again, I congratulate Howard Dean and those who supported him on his victory earned by hard, dedicated work, and I look forward to the renewed vigor I hope his leadership will bring to the DNC.
