Description | "The decision by acting Gov. Richard J. Codey not to run for a full term is a loss for New Jersey.
Codey's announcement ensures that Sen. Jon Corzine will win the Democratic nomination for governor without a fight. Corzine has represented the state well in Washington. Codey has called him "an honorable and decent man." But Codey was wrong to say Monday that sitting out this race serves the best interests of his fellow citizens.

What Corzine has done to secure the nomination seems to be within the letter of the law. But the state Democratic Party has been mired in scandals that stem from allowing big-money donors to exert too much influence. Now, it has allowed a candidate's deep pockets to scare away all rivals, including U.S. Rep. Rob Andrews of Haddon Heights."
