Description | Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman is expected to announce Tuesday that he'll enter next year's race for governor.
A source close to Coleman's campaign tells The Associated Press he will announce his candidacy from his home. Coleman would be the first Democrat to enter the gubernatorial race.
A spokesman for the mayor's office yesterday said Coleman had no comment.
Coleman has been mayor of Ohio's largest city since 1999.
He ran statewide in 1998 as Lee Fisher's lieutenant-governor running mate. Fisher and Coleman lost to Republican Bob Taft's ticket by five percentage points.
Other Democrats mentioned as possible candidates for governor include US Representative Sherrod Brown, TV talk show host Jerry Springer and Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic. |
