Description | "Diane Feinstein and Gale Norton have little in common.
Feinstein, in her short tenure as Senator to Calif., has taken several environmental issues head-on. In 1999 she helped push through the Headwaters Agreement, in which the Pacific Lumber Co. agreed to allow the state and Federal government to acquire the privately-owned 7,500-acre Headwaters Forest of uncut, old-growth redwoods. As part of that deal, Pacific Lumber also agreed to manage its entire 210,000-acres by the terms of the Habitat Conservation Plan and Sustained Yield Plan. As a result, an extra 8,000 acres of ancient redwoods are protected, as well as myriad endangered species."
