Newark's next mayoral election is 18 months away, but state senator and Newark Deputy Mayor Ronald L. Rice says he got tired of the constant questions at every turn.
"So many people ask me what I'm going to do. You can't have people stopping you every day," he said.
So Rice decided to just make it official.
"I'm running for mayor," Rice said one morning from his large second-floor office in Newark City Hall. "I want to come home and run my city before I leave government."
