DescriptionDemocrats swept the three countywide races in Marion County, ending decades of GOP control of the treasurer, coroner and surveyor offices.

That surge pushed out a 26-year incumbent and lifted Democrat Mary Catherine Barton to elected office as surveyor after failed bids for governor, Marion County prosecutor and mayor of Indianapolis.

"I feel really gratified and grateful to the voters," Barton said. "The voters recognized that I am interested in doing good."
