Description | Person County tobacco farmer Harry Oakley said he was dismayed that Sen. John Edwards, who is campaigning for the vice presidency, did not vote on the buyout legislation.
"It doesn't matter whether you're a Democrat or Republican," said Oakley, "Mr. Edwards didn't vote. "If you watch C-Span," Oakley continued, "when Congress gets ready to vote, they say they (members) can vote by electronic device if not present." Holding up his own cell phone, Oakley said, "This is an electronic device. Mr. Edwards cut his own throat in his home state. If it was not for Sen. (Elizabeth) Dole, this (buyout) would not have happened. It was one of the most important things in the state, and Edwards didn’t vote." |
