Description | Gov. James Douglas and Burlington Mayor Peter Clavelle debated for the first time Thursday, sparring on the issues of health care, energy policy, taxes and economic development before a crowd of business leaders.
The 90-minute face-off – the first of at least a dozen planned debates between now and Nov. 2 – covered little new ground, but gave the Republican incumbent and his Democratic challenger a chance to respond to criticisms each has lobbed in the other's court for months.
