DescriptionFormer Arizona Congressman Matt Salmon, who lost the 2002 governor's race by a whisker, wants his old job back.

The $64,000 question is whether Salmon will be competing for an open seat or fighting against incumbent Rep. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz. Flake is an old Salmon ally who will not give a definitive answer about whether he'll keep his term-limits pledge and leave office in 2006.

Salmon, a Mesa Republican, said he is running in 2006 no matter what Flake decides. He wants the East Valley congressional seat he held from 1994 to 2000.

Salmon will not be taking a term-limits pledge that limited him to three terms during his first tenure in Congress.
