Description | Alan Keyes' sometimes harsh rhetoric and rigorously conservative views have alienated more than a few Republicans, including state Rep. Tom Cross of Oswego, the House minority leader, and former Gov. James Thompson, a party icon, who recently called Keyes' nomination "a mistake" and said he would not vote for him.
But Keyes still has many supporters among conservatives, including one local politician who was instrumental in bringing him to Illinois to run against Democrat Barack Obama — state Sen. Steve Rauschenberger of Elgin. |
