Description | Democratic state Supreme Court candidate John Rochester says he wants to see judicial candidates run in nonpartisan races.
Rochester, 49, of Ashland spoke Tuesday night to about 30 members of the Shelby County Democratic Party and a few stray Republicans. Rochester has served 18 years on the bench, and is the presiding judge in Clay and Coosa counties. Rochester faces Republican Mike Bolin, the Jefferson County probate judge, in the Nov. 2 general election. They are competing for the seat held by Democratic Associate Justice Douglas Johnstone, who is retiring.
Although he wears the Democrat label, Rochester made it clear he wants to reach across party lines.
