Description | She finally hit back.
After enduring months of attacks from Democratic rival Peter Deutsch and his allies, U.S. Senate candidate Betty Castor on Monday began broadcasting an ad in which he is described as ``ruthless and nasty.''
The spot, which is also on her website as part of a fundraising appeal, is airing in Tampa and Orlando. Those are the same cities where Deutsch is running an ad that says Castor as then-president of the University of South Florida didn't stand up to a professor suspected of aiding terrorists.
While the Castor ad is not as harsh as Deutsch's new commercial, it potentially shaves off some of the moral high ground staked out by the former state education commissioner. And though Deutsch has filed election law complaints against her and Democratic candidate Alex Penelas and frequently criticized them, Castor has largely stuck to talking about her record and agenda.
But with one week left before the Aug. 31 primary, Castor has decided to fight back -- at least on TV.
