Description | Illinoisans cheated by cut in Senate race debates
Central Illinois Pantagraph
When Barack Obama was a relative unknown, running as a Democrat for one of Illinois' seats in the U.S. Senate, he was eager to engage in as many debates as possible. In June, he offered to debate then-Republican candidate Jim Ryan a half-dozen times to give voters "more than glib TV ads and rehearsed sound bites." Now that Obama's name recognition has soared and Alan Keyes has become the Republican candidate in the Senate race, Obama seems less enthusiastic about a series of debates. Illinoisans will be cheated out of what could have been something of historic proportions. It's like nibbling on appetizers while the main course is kept in the kitchen. |
