U.S. Sen. Patty Murray's campaign yesterday violated the adage about glass houses and throwing stones.
When Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Ed Gillespie attended a Bellevue rally yesterday with Rep. George Nethercutt, Murray went on the attack, noting that Gillespie's lobbying firm recently signed a contract with Airbus, Boeing's European rival.

"While Senator Murray is raising concerns about protecting America's aerospace jobs, George Nethercutt is bringing an anti-Boeing lobbyist to Washington state for his own political gain," huffed Alex Glass, a Murray spokeswoman, in a press release.

What Murray's campaign didn't say — but Nethercutt quickly pointed out — was that Murray herself had been treated to a $1,000-a-plate campaign fund-raiser courtesy of several lobbyists from Gillespie's firm just three months ago. The fund-raiser, at a Washington, D.C., restaurant, was co-hosted by Jack Quinn, a partner of the firm Quinn Gillespie and Associates, according to an invitation to the event.

"She can't take money from Airbus on one hand and criticize Airbus' lobbyist on the other," said Alex Conant, spokesman for Nethercutt, the Spokane Republican challenging Murray's bid for a third term.

The Seattle Democrat's campaign said it had no intention of returning the money from the fund-raiser. (It was not clear yesterday how much money the event raised.)
