Just before the March 2004 primary, McCulloch told Chicago media sources that he had seen copies of the sealed court divorce documents between Hollywood television star Jeri Lynn Ryan and U.S. Senate candidate Jack Ryan. The couple's sealed child custody documents were opened to the public two days ago, after the Chicago Tribune brought a lawsuit demanding access to the files.
