DescriptionFmr Army Chief of Staff Shinseki Named to BancWest Board of Directors
KHNL

Retired Army General Eric Shinseki has been named to the board of directors of BancWest Corporation. The parent company of First Hawaiian Bank made the announcement on Thursday. Shinseki, a Kauai native, was the Army's chief of staff when he retired last August after a 38 year military career. The 61 year old Shinseki served as chief of staff under Presidents Clinton and Bush. He was the first Hawaii native and first Asian American to attain the rank of four star general as well as the Army's highest leadership position. Shinseki served two combat tours in Vietnam and later served as the commander of Army forces in Europe and of NATO peacekeepers in Bosnia-Herzegovina. A permanent exhibit in Shinseki's honor opened in March at the U.S. Army Museum of Hawaii at Fort DeRussy in Waikiki.
