Former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher has recorded a tribute to former President Ronald Reagan that is expected to be played at his funeral, her office said Monday. Thatcher, 78, videotaped the eulogy "some months ago" and details of its use were still being worked out, a spokesman said. The Daily Telegraph newspaper reported Monday that the eulogy would be played at Reagan's state funeral later this week. Thatcher's office said she planned to attend the service at Washington National Cathedral. However she has given up public speaking after a series of small strokes.
Thatcher and Reagan forged a close personal and political bond during their years in office in the 1980s, united by their dislike of communism and belief in free-market economics. After Reagan's death Saturday. Thatcher called him "a truly great American hero." |
