Description | Former Secretary of State A. Ludlow Kramer, 71, died peacefully at his home in Liberty Lake, Washington, April 9, 2004 after battling lung cancer. At age 32, Kramer became the youngest Secretary of State in Washington State history and went on to serve three terms.
Secretary Kramer, a moderate Republican, is perhaps best remembered for his role in improving migrant housing, reforming election laws, and lowering the voting age from 21 to 18.
During his tenure as Secretary of State, Kramer also championed a variety of social justice programs for minorities.
Even after his political career, Secretary Kramer continued to help strengthen the state of Washington. In 1975 he created The Ludlow Foundation to provide small grants to needy people and non-profit organizations. |
