Description | WASHINGTON -- A former Bob Riley aide under congressional investigation for his links to Indian gaming gave the Republican Party large contributions just days before the party gave big donations to Riley's gubernatorial campaign, according to recently filed disclosure reports.
Michael Scanlon is being investigated because $45 million in fees that four Indian tribes with gambling operations paid his company have come into question. Scanlon is a public relations specialist who was Riley's press secretary in 1997 when the governor was in Congress.
The Senate Commerce Committee, headed by Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., is probing the payments to Scanlon and lobbyist Jack Abramoff.
