DescriptionToomey targets wasteful federal pork, except in Pennsylvania
The Burlington County Times

Rep. Pat Toomey, the conservative challenger in the tightening Republican primary for the U.S. Senate, is targeting federal spending projects that he said bloat the federal deficit - except those in Pennsylvania. Touching on a cornerstone of his campaign against the politically moderate Arlen Specter, Toomey on Tuesday lashed out at multimillion-dollar projects, or "pork," that please local constituents but can result in tax increases. He cited specific projects in other states, but when asked to identify pork spending in Pennsylvania, Toomey could not name a project he believes is wasteful. "Arlen Specter is a big part of the driving impetuous for ever more spending," Toomey said. "I don't think it's a good deal for Pennsylvanians."

"Isn't that convenient?" Specter spokesman William Reynolds said of Toomey's comments. "He doesn't even have the guts to come out and name one program in Pennsylvania that he's against? That's hypocritical."
