Description | Libertarians reflect on Jefferson’s influence
The Columbia Daily Tribune
Thomas Jefferson’s influence on libertarian thought served as a backdrop for Libertarian candidates seeking to build momentum for state and national campaigns at a social gathering yesterday in Cosmopolitan Park. "People who don’t like Jefferson don’t like small government, and people who do like Jefferson favor small government," said Lloyd Sloan, a St. Louis radio talk-show host who argued Jefferson, the founder of the Democratic-Republican Party, was a libertarian. Sloan’s presentation, "Was Jefferson a Libertarian," was the focal point of an event intended to give six Libertarian candidates for state and national positions a chance to speak to supporters. About two dozen people, including the candidates, attended.
"Our party is winning more elections, getting more media attention, and conducting more and larger activities than ever before," said Tamara Millay of St. Louis, one of three candidates seeking the nomination for vice president at the party’s convention, scheduled May 27-31 in Atlanta. |
