Description | Opposition to Rowland Remains High
The Honolulu Advertiser
A majority of state residents still believe Gov. John G. Rowland should resign amid a continuing corruption investigation, a poll released Tuesday said. Sixty-five percent said Rowland should step down, while 28 percent said he should remain in office, the University of Connecticut poll found. A similar poll about a month ago had 61 percent calling for the governor's resignation. Rowland is under federal investigation for accepting improvements on his summer cottage from employees and state contractors. He has denied providing any favors in return, but admitted lying about taking the gifts. According to the poll, 57 percent of respondents also said Rowland should be impeached if he refuses to resign. |
