| Description | Founded sometime in the mid 70's there were only a few personel who couldn't hold the charter together untill we were chartered with the IAFF March 5, 1981 and started with 20 members. The City officials at the time would not contest it as long as the Lieutenants were not included (5) . The Lieutenants at the time were the only officers other than the chief and a Captain. ALL agreeded not to join at that time so the rest of the members would be recognized as a collective bargaining unit and the fact that we didn’t have funds to challenge it. The date at this moment is unclear but the lieutenants joined the collective bargaining unit after dealing issues where we were not fairly treated.
We lost the original charter due to lack of funds, and there was a severe line drawn between different factions - those in favor of the union and those who had personal friendships with Brown (who was actually a captain then) and were totally against it. After the original charter fell, the true colors of that administration came out and life was miserable here. No pension, no K Days, mandatory meetings when off duty with no pay, etc. The bozos who were originally against the union finally came around and our current charter came into being. Some bozos took longer than others. |
