Description | About us
We are an independent body that was set up by the UK Parliament. Our mission is to foster public confidence and participation by promoting integrity, involvement and effectiveness in the democratic process.
Our aims
We aim to promote:
1. integrity;
2. involvement; and
3. effectiveness
in the democratic process.
Seeking and achieving the right balance among these three aims which are inter-related - is an important challenge for all who believe in a vibrant and healthy democracy. We aim to reflect this in our corporate planning, and in the implementation of our work programme.
We aim to place the interests of voters at the centre of our consideration in all our work, but we also need to consider the political parties and candidates who stand for election; and those who administer the electoral process. We believe that it is in the interest of voters that electoral arrangements enable elections to be conducted effectively and efficiently. They should also provide the right opportunities for political parties and candidates to engage with the electorate. |
