In 2005 the Conservatives won a narrow majority of seats in the County Council elections and took overall control of Shropshire County Council. One Independent also votes with the Conservative group.
Between 2001 and 2005, the council was controlled by a coalition of Labour, the Liberal Democrats and a group of centrist Independents.
