Description | Formed from parts of Presidio County, Brewster County was named for Henry P. Brewster, secretary of war under David G. Burnet for the Republic of Texas. Its county seat and only city is Alpine.
Buchel and Foley counties were marked off along with Brewster County but had still not been organized by 1897, and in that year their territory was officially added to that of Brewster County, making the latter the largest county in Texas. |
