Description | The Prime Minister is appointed by the National Assembly (NA) of Vietnam for a five-year term, maximum two terms.
The NA also relieves a Prime Minister at the end of his term (either one or two) by majority vote. Relief is generally effected to clear the way for a Prime Minister to become the nation's President, in a succession ritual. A new prime minister is then elected by the NA a few days later. Both the election and the relief happen every 5 years in early April during an ongoing session of the NA. |
